Paris - August 3rd

All,

Our hotel has wifi, so we'll be able to check our emails probably twice per day.  Additionally, expect us to post to this blog daily, so check for updates!

Day 1:

Flight was smooth and we slept through the whole thing.  We took the subway to our hotel.

Jackelyn on the subway (exhausted)

The subway trip only cost us 9 euros per person and we only had to transfer twice!

Subway station near our hotel

Paris could be considered the art capital of the world for the past couple centuries, and it bleeds over into the public.  For example, this subway station has a mosaic of unintelligible signatures on the ceiling.

We carried our bags up these spiral stairs.

Our hotel is located here near the L'Université Paris Descartes.  The elavator only goes down, which if I had only one direction an elevator could go, it would be my second favorite.  Walking up 3 flights of stairs reminds us of our apartment.

After reaching the hotel, the first goal was to find a Parisian bakery.

Mission accomplished

Tools for making our way around Paris

French phrase books serve the dual purpose of trying to prevent us from sounding like silly American tourists while making us look like silly American tourists.  Our waiter in the cafe said "you're trying to learn French?  That's so cute!"  The Grand Marnier crepe will get you drunk.

Some expressions we learned:

"Tu-te de-barfe" - Everything was great (nothing was barf)
"oo son lay twa-ley" - I will shortly pee my pants unless a WC is nearby.  Please direct me there.
